Convened
and hosted by Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House On The Rock, The Experience is an
Interdenominational gospel concert that features some of the best musical
talents of our time. The Experience from inception has been seen as an
opportunity for Nigerians to put aside tribe, tongue, class, and creed as a
multitude of people come together and lift one voice in worship to God in a
colossal 11 hours of uninterrupted prayer and live music! The event is seen as
a bridge of reconciliation, and a beacon of light and hope to the much
afflicted and often maligned continent of Africa. Attended by people from all
walks of life, The Experience is representative of a cross section of Nigeria’s
diverse community.
The
event, which debuted in December 2006 with just about 10,000 people in
attendance, according to Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has rapidly gained momentum.
The Experience has now become known as the largest musical concert in
Africa. With a mammoth crowd estimated at 700, 000 people covering the entire Tafawa
Balewa Square Lagos’ cricket pitch and the seats, including the cricket pitch
extension with an overflow outside the venue, it was a night of music and
prayer from 7pm on December 6, 2013.
The
atmosphere at the event was charged as many people from the crowd were very
excited and intensely blew whistles through the night. In it’s 8th edition, the
event brought together many award winning Nigerian and International acts. The
Godfather of gospel music Don Moen, Grammy Award winners Yolanda Adams, Cece
Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Stellar award winners Micah
Stampley and Tye Tribbett (who was recently nominated for 2014 Grammy awards),
Nigeria’s own Sammie Okposo, Eben, Midnight Crew, Mike Aremu,
Kingsley Ike, Etighi Master Freke Umoh, Frank Edwards and The Lagos
Metropolitan Gospel Choir (House On The Rock’s in-house choir). They all did
what they are best known to do, to the delight of the audience who sang along
to their every song.
Comedians
Akpororo and Chi Gurl were also present to intermittently crack humorous jokes
which had the audience reeling in laughter.
Bishop
Tudor Bismark, the Zimbabwean who pastors at the UK based Tudor Bismarck
Ministries, preached the sermon for the night and church leaders like Bishop
Mike Okonkwo (of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, TREM) Reverend Sam Adeyemi
(of Daystar Christian Centre), Bola Adefarasin, Reverend Victor Adeyemi (of
Global Harvest Church), Pastor Taiwo Odukoya (of Fountain of Life Church) Pastor
Felix Omobude (President of PFN, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria), Pastor
Paul Adefarasin (the Senior Pastor at House On The Rock and convener of The
Experience), led several prayer and intercessory sessions where they prayed for
Nigeria and its leadership.
Also
present at the event were the 1st Lady of Lagos State, Dame Abimbola Fashola,
Lady Maiden Ibru with her son, Toke, amongst other dignitaries and captains of
industry.
The
event ended at 5:30am on December 7, 2013, with “The Experience Overflow” as it
was called, scheduled to hold at The Rock Cathedral, Lekki with Donnie
McClurkin and Bishop Tudor Bismarck on Sunday 8th December, 2013.
